The right people in your business will make your business soar, decrease your stress levels and make all the hard work worthwhile… the wrong people will drive your business into the ground, drive you insane and often leave you wondering if its really worth it. Sound familiar?
Over the past few years I’ve come to appreciate the power of a Vision Statement in helping you hire and fire.
If you are like me and many others, the thought of a vision statement makes you yawn and reflect on how they are a ‘fluffy’ statement that people say you need but at the end of the day it gets filed away never to be seen.
Over the past 3 years I’ve dusted off the old ‘vision statement’ band wagon and I’m now a passionate crusader for more and better vision statements because I’ve found them so simple yet SO powerful in helping a business – any business.
I’ve included a link below to a one pager on how you can use your vision statement to help you hire and fire, but I’d like to quickly mention the 3 main benefits of a vision statement for yourself and your business:
A correctly crafted vision statement that accurately sums up what you are aiming to achieve with your business is EXTREMELY motivating for yourself and your staff. And lets face it, running a business takes a lot of time and effort and its beneficial to have something that reminds you of the ‘why’!
You can use your vision statement like a compass. When you are hiring someone, use the vision statement in job ads in order to attract the right people. Use it in interviews and use it to assess existing staff to help you decide if they will take your business towards your vision and not away from it.
Use your vision statement to check EVERY SINGLE TOUCH POINT with your customers! Look at your product/service – does it match your vision? Look at your quotes and the info you are including in them and how they are worded and how they look. Do they match your vision? Look at every single page on your website…do they match and convey your vision? Look at your marketing material… does it have the presentation and messages that matches your vision?
Try it. Its a fantastic tool. Here’s the one pager on hiring:
