  Review of your expenses and checking if you can get better deals on insurance, phone, materials etc. Many people overlook this but it is usually far easier to spend less rather than sell more. I regularly see clients gain a few extra grand a year doing this. Note: to have a $1,000 in your pocket, you have to sell 3 to 5x that amount!

Get real clear on your personal values and goals. These can change. It is easy to overlook them and time goes by and we look back and realise we’ve failed to hit them. Do you want more time with family next year? How much time? Do you want more pay? How much exactly? Your values drive your decisions. When you know your values, decision making in business becomes a lot easier, AND the results will be aligned to your core goals. If you have trouble with this, we can do a values elicitation and vision exercise.

Brainstorm with your team what can be done better next year. Ask there they see opportunities. Make sure you don’t discount their suggestions otherwise they will shut down. I can facilitate these sessions and conduct on-on-one interviews with staff. I generally find this generates signifcantly more useful and insightful info.

Meet with your accountant and really quiz them on what you might change or do. Anything including saving time (money) on paperwork, BAS, easier bookkeeping. Accountants can be buggers – they don’t offer advice, you have to know what to ask them…which is backwards because we don’t know what we don’t know! An important task I work with my client’s accountants on is confirming profit margins. Essential you have a true handle on how much your products/services cost so you can sell the profitable ones and get your pricing right.
